Charities

At Hutchings Consultants it’s not just all about business, we believe it’s important to give something back to society and our local community.

Missenden Walled Garden Charity

The ‘Walled Garden Social Care Day Service’, was formally run by Buckinghamshire County Council until 2017 when it was threatened with closure. Parents and local supporters were able to mount a challenge, rescue the operation and form a charity in June 2017. Since then, their numbers have grown by over 40%.

For five days a week, their team of 10 (5FTE) staff and 20 volunteers, support and empower over 50 adults with disabilities and mental health issues. Their gardeners (as they call them), range from being in their 20’s to their 70’s.

The charity works in partnership with the gardeners and the team at Missenden Abbey, delivering a sizeable contract to maintain all horticultural aspects of the site. The gardeners also work indoors, within the glass-houses and education centre, growing plants and taking part in other activities such as art, craft and music. The food grown is used in the kitchens of the Abbey, lending a strong sense of value to what the gardeners do.

“We are so very grateful to Anne and the team at Hutchings for lending their generous support to help our charity. Their dedication, enthusiasm and kind presence within the garden (and above it as we develop our strategy) is quite simply invaluable.“
