Hutchings 2026 Half Year Review

More buyers. More conversations. More opportunities.

The first half of 2026 has shown continued demand across our sectors, with increasing numbers of cash-ready buyers actively seeking quality opportunities.

From first conversations through to completed transactions, Hutchings Consultants has continued to connect ambitious buyers with exceptional businesses.

The Market is Moving. Are You Ready?

Demand remains strong and over the past six months we’ve seen a significant increase in enquiries from:

✓ Cash-rich investors

✓ Experienced operators seeking growth opportunities

✓ Corporate acquirers

✓ First-time buyers with funding secured

✓ Multi-site operators looking to expand

The challenge isn’t finding buyers.

It’s identifying the right buyer to maximise value, secure the best terms and deliver the right outcome for every seller.

Case Study: The right strategy creates the best outcome.

Morningside Pharmacy Group

The Opportunity

The owner of the Morningside Pharmacy Group approached Hutchings Consultants as part of a planned retirement strategy following a distinguished career in community pharmacy, pharmaceutical manufacturing and wholesaling.

The portfolio comprised eight pharmacies located across Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Northamptonshire, collectively dispensing approximately 75,000 prescription items per month.

The objective was clear: maximise value while ensuring a smooth transition for both the vendor and future owners.

Our Strategy

Rather than market the portfolio as a single transaction, Hutchings Consultants implemented a phased disposal strategy.

Each pharmacy was individually positioned to appeal to different buyer profiles, enabling us to widen the buyer pool and optimise outcomes on a branch-by-branch basis.

The portfolio included a diverse mix of locations:

  • Medical centre pharmacies
  • Village pharmacies
  • High street locations
  • Convenience-led community pharmacies

This combination offered buyers both stable prescription income and opportunities for future growth through retail and service development.

Morningside Group Pharmacies

Market Response

The pharmacies attracted significant interest from across the market.

Enquiries were received from:

  • First-time pharmacy buyers
  • Independent operators
  • Experienced multi-site owners
  • Strategic acquirers seeking expansion opportunities

The breadth of buyer interest reinforced a key market trend we continue to see throughout 2026: quality pharmacy opportunities remain in strong demand when presented with a clear and considered strategy.

Solving Complex Challenges

One of the portfolio’s most notable transactions involved Merridale Pharmacy, located within one of Leicester’s largest medical centres and LIFT estates.

To achieve the best possible outcome, Hutchings Consultants worked closely with all stakeholders to structure a lease proposal that aligned the interests of both the incoming purchaser and landlord.
This enabled the lease term to be extended to satisfy lender requirements while preserving value for the vendor.

Scott Hayton, Managing Director, commented:
“We had to come up with a carefully structured proposal on the lease to align both the interests of the incoming owner and landlord before the lease term could be extended for lending purposes. This in turn ensured that full value could be achieved for our clients and all parties achieved their goals”

The Result

✓ Eight pharmacies successfully sold

✓ Strong buyer competition across the portfolio

✓ Multiple buyer profiles engaged

✓ Retirement objectives achieved for the vendor

✓ Successful completion of the final pharmacy sale

✓ Maximum value realised through a phased disposal strategy
